John Johnson - Band Director
John W. Johnson is in his thirteenth year as the director of bands at Boyd County High School in Ashland, Kentucky. Mr. Johnson holds a bachelors degree in music education from Morehead State University as well as a masters in music education from Morehead State.
Mr. Johnson is the founder and director of the Bluegrass Wind Ensemble and the Boyd County Community Band. Both his community groups as well as his high school ensembles have received numerous awards and invitations to perform at various conferences including the Kentucky School Board Association conference and the Kentucky Music Educators Association in-service conference.
Mr. Johnson has been named the KMEA District 8 high school music teacher of the year for the years of 2012-2013 and 2015-2016. Johnson was also named the 2013 Phi Beta Mu outstanding young band master in Kentucky. His professional affiliations include: the National Band Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, KMEA, Phi Beta Mu international Bandmasters Fraternity, The American School Directors Association, and, NAFME.
Mr. Johnson lives in Ashland Kentucky with his wonderful wife Annie, their two kids Henry and Georgia and their dog Molly.
